Questions of trust

Another survey out this month from the trend-analysers the Future Foundation asked 522 parents who they trust the most when it comes to their child's welfare. Nannies ranked 5.8 to 6 on a 1-10 scale, childminders 6.2, day nurseries 6.5, and spouses 9.6. The larger survey found growing support among parents for video-link surveillance of their children in someone else's care, such as nanny-cams. It concluded that such anxieties and the pressures of modern lifestyles are making parenting itself 'professionalised'. Could that be why parents are looking for more professionalised childcarers? Oh well - yet another survey of children aged eight to 15, done by the British Heart Foundation, has found that 99 per cent can confidently use a DVD player but only 43 per cent can boil an egg.
