The inspection service has warned providers - including those running existing schemes from new premises - that they should not wait until June to apply for registration or delay the process of vetting new staff. An Ofsted spokeswoman said, 'Sufficient time needs to be allowed for checks to be carried out by other organisations such as the Criminal Records Bureau.
If you do not apply in time you may not be able to register before the holidays.'
Playschemes that operate for less than two hours a day or fewer than six days a year are not required to register with Ofsted.
