(Photograph) - Registered childminders and staff with the National Childminding Association, including chief executive Gill Haynes, hit the road as they took part in the British 10km Open Road Race in central London last month. Mrs Haynes said, 'Helen Pickett, a childminder for Dorking, finished in a fantastic 48 minutes. We had a lot of fun but it was also a very painful experience!' The 11 runners were putting their best foot forward to raise money for the NCMA's new Training Bursary Fund. The fund, named in memory of Gail Hall, an NCMA training officer who died earlier this year, will provide bursaries for registered childminders who want to undertake training to work with children with special needs, but need financial assistance. The training will allow childminders to offer an inclusive service to families and have a better understanding of specialist care. Contributions to the bursary fund can be sent in a cheque made out to the NCMA to Norman Henthorne, Director of Finances, NCMA, 8 Masons Hill, Bromley, Kent BR2 9CY.
