The warning was given by the National Association of Head Teachers and the Secondary Heads Association in their submissions to the Bichard inquiry into the Soham murders by primary school caretaker Ian Huntley.
Earlier this week the National Association of Head Teachers (NAHT) called for the mandatory Enhanced Disclosure check by the Criminal Records Bureau to be extended to all support staff in England and Wales, and said it was 'not sufficient to consider only posts that have day-to-day unsupervised access to children'. It added, 'Young children in particular see people in situations that encourage them to view these people with trust.
