'Safe Parenting' handbook

Parents of young children could benefit from information and advice in a new 'Safe Parenting' handbook produced by the the Lancashire Area Child Protection Committee. More than 30,000 copies of the handbook are being distributed across the county via primary schools, Sure Start schemes, family support services, doctors' surgeries and maternity and children's wards in hospitals. The handbook includes information on bullying, drug misuse and internet safety. The aim of the handbook is to reduce accidents involving children and prevent serious incidents which could result in child protection measures being enforced by agencies. Members of the child protection committee come from the social services and education directorates, the national probation service, primary care trusts, police and the NSPCC. Chairwoman Gill Rigg said, 'The purpose of this handbook is very much about helping parents understand that they are not alone; a range of support and information is always available. It is also an excellent reference for professional staff involved in supporting children and families.'
