The outbreak was at Nord Anglia's Leapfrog nursery in Carlton Park, Narborough, a village on the outskirts of Leicester. Two children, whose ages and names have not been released, were taken to Leicester Royal Infirmary.

Dr Philip Monk, Leicestershire Health Authority's public health chief, said the outbreak had caused severe diarrhoea among the children.

A spokesperson for Leapfrog Day Nurseries said that as soon as they realised there was 'a potential issue, we took precautions to minimise the impact. We are now working with our suppliers to find the origin of the outbreak. We are working closely with the environmental health officer and are giving our full co-operation to resolve this matter and identify the source.'
