Trouble Free Transition will hold a conference on 8 November todistribute a transition resource pack to the 13 primary schools and theirfeeder pre-school settings in Burnley, Lancashire, that took part in theproject, beginning in September 2006.
The schools and pre-school settings shared good practice and worked tocreate better relationships with local children's centres. One nursery,for example, helped the children prepare for the move by doing role playin borrowed school uniforms.
The transition pack was created by the project for both schools andnurseries to use.
Carla Bowden, a teacher at Walter Street Primary School, who wasnominated as a project leader, said she found working closely with herlocal community nursery and pre-school immensely rewarding. 'It was areally positive experience meeting the children for the first time intheir nursery. Some children do find it really difficult to settle. Butwe can now communicate and talk about those children, and in receptionclasses we can identify who we need to give extra support to.'
