Schools to educate 'from crib to college'

Two independent schools in Scotland are set to offer continuous education from crib to college. The schools, Albyn School for Girls in Aberdeen and Lathallan in the north-east of the country, hope to be open for babies from later this year. Headmaster Dr John Halliday of Albyn School for Girls said the decision to open a baby and toddler unit in November and extend provision was in response to demand from parents who wanted continuity for their children.

'We have had a number of parents asking for this service.'

The Harriet House baby and toddler nursery at the school will take 12 babies aged from 12 weeks and 28 toddlers aged up to three years. The new nursery will be in a former classroom, which is to undergo a 120,000 refurbishment.

Working parents will be able to leave their children there from 8am to 6 pm, five days a week, 50 weeks a year. The existing nursery is mixed and takes children from two-and-a-half, although Albyn takes only girls from primary age onwards.
