Scotland: Forum for views on provision

The future of Edinburgh's nurseries and schools is to be considered by a cross-party forum set up by the City Council.

Plans to close 22 schools and nurseries were withdrawn by the council inSeptember, amid community protests (News, 13 September).

The Liberal Democrat-led council says that the city's child populationhas fallen by 18 per cent in the last ten years and that'rationalisation' of the Children and Families Estate is necessary.

Last week a council report proposed that all stakeholders put theirviews to a forum that will include parent, teacher and religious grouprepresentatives.
