Scotland's population to fall below five million

Scotland's population is projected to fall below five million in 2009 in demographic figures released last week by the Registrar General for Scotland. By 2027 the proportion of children under 16 will have fallen by 19 per cent and people aged over 75 will have increased by 61 per cent.
