Scottish out-of-school clubs are to get help applying for funding to expand and sustain their provision. The Scottish Out of School Care Network (SOSCN) is to receive 1m over three years from the New Opportunities Fund to employ five development officers, an information officer and admin support.

Communications officer Andrew Shoolbread said, 'Many clubs are put off by the process of applying for NOF funding. It can seem daunting. The new development officers will put clubs together and create consortium bids.

These often have a better chance of success because there is a lead partner who deals with management and monitoring and that takes the pressure off the smaller groups.'

The development officers will work from home and be regionally based throughout Scotland. They will also offer training in planning and business skills to clubs at a later stage.
