Sector bids to take over running IiC

The National Children's Bureau has submitted a bid to the DfES to fund a three-year project to continue the work of Investors in Children (IiC). The ineffectiveness of IiC in helping parents to identify good practice, outlined in the Childcare Bill consultation, gave rise to concerns that it would be phased out in favour of the new Ofsted grading system.

But although the DfES has not yet given a definitive answer on whether it plans to continue investing in IiC, childcare campaigners wishing to raise the visibility of the quality improvement agenda, and the role of quality assurance (QA) schemes and IiC, have come together to form the National Quality Assurance Network.

Led by the NCB, with funding from the DfES, the steering group has identified a set of tasks for 2005 to 2006, including a proposal that that the sector could take over the operation of IiC, with funding.
