Self protection

The Charity Commission could elaborate on its third principle on child protection ('Charities warned on child protection', News, 3 October) to state that any interrogation of children will be carried out within strict guidelines to ensure that the truth is found out. Such investigations should be kept quiet until it is established that there is a case to answer. What's more, now is the time to discuss strategies that help children protect themselves. These include telling children to say 'No!' to unwelcome touches, to tell parents or other trusted adults about such things and not to keep 'secrets'.
