Some very familiar names are there and the majority of them have not changed position at all, or if they have, only by a place or two.

Nord Anglia is still the clear market leader in terms of the number of childcare places it offers with 9,762 places and 101 nurseries, but it has not opened any new settings in the last six months and has only increased its places by 26.

In fact, there has also been a slow down in expansion for the all the big nursery chains, perhaps reflecting the uncertainty of the private sector at this time, with low occupancy levels reported still to be a problem for both large and small providers.
