Song and dance about arts funds

Young children will be encouraged to put their best feet forward and dance with the help of funding of more than 70,000 awarded to two initiatives by the Scottish Arts Council (SAC). Pre-school and primary children across Scotland will benefit from a 42,860 grant awarded to Tabula Rasa dance company to create and tour with a dance and music performance for three- to six-year-olds. The performance, 'Huff, Puff and Away', will tour during summer 2004 and seeks to explore actions and entities associated with air, such as wind, breath, floating and flying. It will feature a male and a female dancer who will dance among helium balloons and will be accompanied by live music and songs.

The performance will be accompanied by a series of education residencies and creative dance and poetry workshops developed by Tabula Rasa in collaboration with North Edinburgh Arts Centre and the Poetry Library. The company will work with musicians, composers, theatre directors and designers and hopes that the show and workshops will inspire children from all over Scotland to enjoy dancing and taking part in performances.
