Spotlight on ... Alice Clough

Name: Alice Clough

Position: Childminder in Cambridgeshire

- Why are you going to Mongolia?

I am taking part in the 2011 Mongol rally with my boyfriend. It is a 10,000 mile charity drive through 17 countries including Mongolia, Iran, Uzbekistan and Russia. I am raising money for the Christina Noble Children's Foundation, which supports homeless children in Mongolia, and Cam-Mind, a mental health charity in Cambridgeshire. We leave on 23 July and the journey will take between eight and ten weeks.

- How long have you been a childminder?

For two years. I also spent a month volunteering in a Mongolian orphanage in 2004, so this is a cause that is very close to my heart.

- Why have you chosen to drive an ambulance rather than a car?

We have chosen to take a Mercedes Sprinter 312D ambulance, because when we finish the rally we will donate it to the Mongolian emergency services. Another way of making this journey worthwhile!
