Name: Heather Clough

Position: Nursery chef, Le Monde Petit, Burnley, Lancashire

- Which healthy meal awards have you helped the nursery to win?

This year, we got gold for the Recipe 4 Health award, an initiative towards cooking healthy food using less salt and sugar. Five years ago, we won the Smile for Life award for fresh food and healthy snacking, and for using less sugar and having water instead of juice.

- What do you most enjoy about your job?

It's a challenge coming in every morning and cooking for the children. You've got to be enthusiastic. It's nice when the children come and ask me what's for lunch. When I first started working here ten years ago, I had to peel the potatoes and I didn't have a dishwasher. Now I have a dishwasher and I don't have to peel the potatoes.

- What is your favourite recipe to cook?

Salmon and broccoli pasta. My lasagne is also really good and the children like it best. Everything that we cook on the premises is cooked from scratch, from locally sourced products. We have our own butcher and we get our vegetables from the wholesalers. We have to be careful if any children have allergies.
