Careers & Training Inclusion
Daphne Chapman, SENCO at Fledgelings nursery in Ramsgate, Kent

How long have you worked at the nursery?

I've been here for 20 years. I started as a parent helper when one my children started at the setting and it just evolved from there. I did training on the job, as I had no previous childcare experience, having worked as a shorthand typist, registered nurse and midwife previously.

What changes have you seen at the nursery over the past two decades?

Over the 20 years I have worked at the nursery, it has moved location from the owner's home to a converted chapel. The minimum age of children we care for has also changed from three years to three months, and the nursery has increased its hours from sessional to full daycare.
