What inspired you to write your novel Community Chest?
Working as a childminder, I have met many family set ups that are run by a hardworking, multi-tasking woman who consistently puts herself last and deals with whatever life throws. I wanted to portray this in my book.
Is it inspired by your own experiences as a childminder?
Although everything is fictional, the character of Sally and her life is without doubt a mirror of my life. My husband and I have three sons like Sally and our money situation is always precarious due to the nature of the job.
What made you decide to support the Smile of Arran Trust?
The mother of Arran Tosh, Alison, is a close friend of mine. The sense of shock, loss and pain that imploded when Arran tragically died of a brain tumour cannot be described. I had just finished the book and fundraising ideas were being discussed for a charity in Arran's memory helping children and families in their situation. My book's target market is early years providers and I felt I could donate money in Arran's memory to help others.
