Spotlight on... Helen Eaton

Manager at Stretton Day Nursery

What made you decide to organise a fundraising skydive?

We lost a colleague in 2013, due to a lot of illnesses. We were fundraising to send her on a honeymoon back then and climbed over the O2 and raised just under £6,000. Since then, we’ve organised challenges every year to seize every opportunity in life in her memory.

Where will the money go to and why?

This time the money from our skydive is going to the Midlands Air Ambulance because it is very active, especially with children in the area. The children have joined in and did a sponsored jump to see how many jumps they could do in under a minute – they managed 3,986! – and that money went to the British Heart Foundation. Everyone joined in, from 11 months old to four-and-a half years old, which was fantastic. Each year we try to include parents and children in our fundraising efforts.

Are you planning on carrying on with fundraising challenges?

I probably will. This skydive is my ultimate fear, and I definitely don’t want to do it. But we have already started talking about going on the longest zipwire in Wales next year, which is something I’m a lot more excited about!
