Name: Lisa Daws

Position: Manager of Sandford Pre-School in Longton, Stoke-on-Trent

- What did you have to do to receive the Stoke Speaks Out award?

The Communication Friendly project, designed to help younger children in the area with speech and language problems, is split into four different levels, which all the staff completed working in groups or individually. We were one of the first settings in Stoke-on-Trent to start the project after it launched in 2004 and it's been a real team effort completing it.

- What did you win?

We have been given a plaque that has pride of place on the wall. We will also receive a special glass trophy at an awards ceremony. I will be attending the event with another member of staff.

- What are your future plans?

We will continue with our good practice and help support other settings who take part in the project. I am currently doing my foundation degree which I will complete in the summer.
