A school's partnership with a local gym club is helping children to gain physical skills and all-round confidence, finds Crispin Andrews Although Friday afternoon usually brings a collective sigh of relief in schools, offices and factories the length and breadth of the country, one particular group of children have an altogether different reason to celebrate - it's time for their favourite lesson, gymnastics!

Although Friday afternoon usually brings a collective sigh of relief in schools, offices and factories the length and breadth of the country, one particular group of children have an altogether different reason to celebrate - it's time for their favourite lesson, gymnastics!

The five-minute bus ride to Wirral gymnastics club complete, * 0 wide-eyed four- and five-year-old Foundation Stage pupils from Bidston Avenue Primary School in Birkenhead once again enter their own theatre of dreams. With its impressive apparatus, brightly coloured soft-play equipment and most of all, its blue sprung floor (on which you really can bounce up and down), for these young children the gym club is rapidly becoming as familiar a place as it is exciting. So much better than doing gymnastics in the school dining room!
