Home visits can have an enormous impact on the wellbeing of a family. They can help combat postnatal depression, reduce child behavioural problems and even root out child abuse.

With this in mind, Dr Stella Acquarone, founder of the School of Infant Mental Health (SIMH), has set up workshops to aid health professionals in improving their home visits.

The two-day workshop is held four times a year at the SIMH in London and at various venues all over the UK.

Last year, the Health Development Agency found that home visiting can have an impact in reducing rates of childhood injury and can help children develop intellectually. The report, Ante- and post-natal home visiting programmes: a review of reviews, said that it can improve the relationship between the parent and the child and help manage postnatal depression.
