Steps to same place

I would like to reply to the letter 'Just a unit on a production line' (5 August). I have been a nursery nurse for eight years. In that time I have worked in the private sector, holiday/after school care, schools and a pre-school. Currently I work in a nursery attached to an infant school. We are going through the process of altering our admissions to enable us to take children from a younger age. It is not something that we jumped in to.

We are going through the process of altering our admissions to enable us to take children from a younger age. It is not something that we jumped in to.

We approached all local nurseries, schools, pre-schools and playgroups. We had a very positive response from all involved, especially parents old and new.

I am upset to read the letter from Andrea Warren, as I feel it gives school nurseries a negative image. Maybe she has a negative opinion of school units because she knows little of them or has seen bad practices. I would like to let her know that we are providing a stimulating, appropriate learning environment where all children are learning through play. Why would she think that just because we are part of the school we will do things differently to pre-schools or day nurseries?
