Support for assessors

The story 'Crisis to worsen for NVQ assessment' (News, 2 June) reports on the shortage of NVQ assessors in some parts of England and says that the situation will get worse in November when the new National Occupational Standards come on board. The National Day Nurseries Association (NDNA), Children's Workforce Development Council (CWDC), Learning Skills Council (LSC) national office and Edexcel would like to reassure assessors that a great deal of work is being carried out behind the scenes to support them and recognise the vital part they play in the early years sector. There are also a number of dissemination and educational events planned about the standards.

The NDNA has consulted national partners and stakeholders within the sector regarding this issue and has sought feedback in response to the concern highlighted.
