Sure Start Month gets an early start

* It was an early start for Margaret Hodge and Catherine Ashton when they visited a south London children's centre for breakfast on Tuesday morning. The minister for children and Sure Start minister were at Ethelred Children's Centre to promote 'Starting early', the theme of this year's National Sure Start Month, which takes place across England during June.

The event is a month-long celebration of childcare, early education, health and family support services sponsored and directed by the Sure Start Unit.

The weeks are: Pre-school Playweek, run by the Pre-school Learning Alliance, 12 to 18 June; Childcare Week, run by the Daycare Trust, 14 to 20 June; National Childminding Week, run by the National Childminding Association, 19 to 26 June; and Shout Out! Week, organised by 4Children, 28 June to 2 July.
