T-shirt alert for children with allergies

Amother whose baby daughter almost died from an allergic reaction after she was fed cows' milk at a day nursery has designed a range of T-shirts to protect other children from accidents. Sarah Agar, founder and director of a new company called allergytees, in Stockton, Cleveland, has produced T-shirts for babies and toddlers that state the name of the child and the allergy they suffer from to alert their carers.

Sarah Agar, founder and director of a new company called allergytees, in Stockton, Cleveland, has produced T-shirts for babies and toddlers that state the name of the child and the allergy they suffer from to alert their carers.

'Often babies look so alike that they're indistinguishable,' said Ms Agar.

'These T-shirts stand out and remind people to double-and triple-check before giving a baby a bottle that may not actually be theirs and is potentially life-threatening.'

Ms Agar hopes her T-shirts will help prevent similar incidents of severe allergic reactions such as the one at the Jigsaw nursery in Milton Keynes, where five-month-old Thomas Egan was inadvertently fed breakfast cereal con-taining cows' milk protein and died two hours later. Last month an inquest into that case reached a verdict of accidental death contributed to by neglect.
