Talk, don't moan

I want to respond to the letter 'More training is great, but not in my back yard' (19 July). Oh, for goodness sake, stop moaning! I'd be annoyed if a nursery nurse did course observations in class without discussing it with me first. I would like to say to this nursery nurse that the teacher will have spent time planning your work for the day, so you have no right to assume that you are entitled to do something different. You should be working as a team. Discuss what you need to do so that it can be fitted into activities at an appropriate time, instead of moaning about the school not offering chances for ancillaries to attend training courses.

Why don't you talk to the other ancillaries, and then explain to the headteacher exactly why you need training and how this would benefit the school? There is no point in writing to a magazine about it if you aren't prepared to communicate with the relevant members of staff and, more importantly, consider other people's point of view.
