The cat and the baby birds

Play a chasing story game about a cat and baby birds (see Birds project overleaf). Child development opportunities

Child development opportunities

* To listen and respond to instructions and have fun together.

* To find out within a secure environment how to deal with sudden change and fear and how and when to take risks and be aware of the consequences.

* To respond physically as well as emotionally to a story game.

How to play

* Draw a circle to represent a bird's nest. All the children are baby birds and live in the nest. When they are inside the nest, they are safe.

* The baby birds fly out of the nest into the surrounding garden. In the garden a hungry cat is watching them. Suddenly the cat says, 'Meow, meow' and tries to catch a baby bird before they all fly back to the nest. (The cat cannot go into the nest.) * Any baby bird caught by the cat watches the game for one turn and then joins in again.
