The Children's Society and the Children's Play Council

(Photograph) - The Children's Society and the Children's Play Council are urging parents to take half a day to play together on 4 August for national Playday, the country's biggest annual celebration of play involving 100,000 children at hundreds of events across the UK. According to a survey commissioned for national Playday, 72 per cent of UK parents think they are playful - but their children disagree. Out of the 1,226 children surveyed, most of them said that their parents rarely, or never played with them. Children's Play Council director Tim Gill said, 'Through play, children explore the world around them. Along the way they learn how to socialise and look after themselves. Parents can encourage their children to play with them without feeling they have to be their children's best mates.' Playday is now in its 17th year. For more information visit www.playday.org.uk.
