The dough to do

Jane Mills (Letters, 25 September) has asked for help in producing non-sticky playdough, while a recent feature, 'Against the grain' (31 July), suggested that early years practitioners should be aware of children who have the gluten intolerance condition coeliac playing with playdough, as it is made from wheat flour. It should be noted that some children and adults with coeliac cannot even handle products that have gluten in them, such as wheat, rye, barley and oats, without having a reaction. Therefore a gluten-free alternative should be provided.
