The eating habits of 90 percent of five- and six year-olds in Scotland have improved since a free fruit scheme began in 2003, according to a study by the Scottish Centre for Social Research. Sixty per cent of Primary 1 and 2 children who receive free fruit three times a week ate more fresh fruit and vegetables at lunchtime under the Hungry for Success programme. The Evaluation of Free Fruit in Schools Initiative is available at www.scotland.gov.uk /publications.
