The Institute of Education continued its 100th anniversary celebrations last week by awarding honourary Doctor of Literature degrees to three distinguished educationalists. The degrees were presented by HRH the Princess Royal, chancellor of the University of London, to Dame Marie Clay, developmental psychologist and founder of the Reading Recovery literacy programme; Ted Wragg, professor of education at Exeter University, and author, journalist and education adviser; and Jean Floud, education sociologist and retired teacher, lecturer and college principal. Professor Geoff Whitty, Institute of Education director, described the honourary graduates as being 'among the leading figures in education of the past 50 years'.
