The Institute of Education 1902-2002: A Centenary History, by Professor Richard Aldrich, tells how it was founded as the London Day Training College to provide teachers for the city's elementary schools, then became a college of the University of London and an international postgraduate centre for educational research.

At the book's launch, which began ten months of celebratory events, the Institute's director Professor Geoff Whitty said, 'Today the Institute is looking forward to the future with confidence as well as remembering its origins with pride.'

The book is available for 22.50 from the Institute of Education on 020 7612 6050.
