The Kids' Clubs Network

The Kids' Clubs Network has called for improved services for 11- to 16-year-olds as well as for an after-school and holiday youth club in every school in England. At a major conference in London earlier this week on the KCN's Make Space campaign, a five-point manifesto was launched calling for a Make Space club at every secondary school, Government funding for more Make Space clubs and an active consultation with young people. Make Space also wants a review of youth services, with increased support for training and qualifications and a young people's plan in each area, bringing together schools, police, parents, young people and local authorities. The 2.5m campaign is sponsored by food manufacturer Nestle. The first Make Space 'model' club, which aims to try out new ways of providing after-school provision for teenagers, will open at Haling Manor School, Croydon, Surrey, on 20 November. The campaign is set to reach its first-year target of 300 Make Space member clubs.
