The Scottish Executive has published its response to the national debate on education

The Scottish Executive has published its response to issues raised by all those who took part in the national debate on education, which it set up last year. Some of those who contributed called for schools to be open for longer and for improved communications and partnership between parents and schools. In its response, the Scottish Executive said that it would seek to provide better out-of-school care within the school environment and to improve the transition from pre-school education into school. Launching the report, minister for education and young people Cathy Jamieson said that improving literacy and numeracy was a key priority and would be at the heart of a revised curriculum. The full report is available on www.scotland.gov.uk.
