The wrong job

With reference to the letters by Joanna Savage and Elaine Huntington (7 February), are they sure they wish to train to be a classroom or teaching assistant? Just because you are cleaning paint pots does not mean you are not treated with the respect you feel you deserve. After all, what else are you there for? I work in a nursery within a first school and I am currently studying a CACHE course, and I love being a classroom assistant.

The job is about being a part of a team within the classroom and school. The correspondents obviously don't feel this, or else they would not think the jobs they are given undermine them. They are there to ASSIST teachers and help with the workload in the classroom. If they want more respect, perhaps they should train to be teachers - then they may not feel so insulted.
