Let's have a light-hearted look at what nannying was like back then and now.

Domestic bliss

In 1901...

Nanny was on the top floor, sharing the children's room. Sometimes she presided over a whole nursery wing.

Uniform was essential; a long dress for the mornings, grey or white skirts and short black jackets with leg-of-mutton sleeves for afternoons, boots and boaters or bonnets. Cuffs and collars, too, if the family wished it.
