This week's columnist Alan Bentley calls for the private nursery sector to speak with one voice I was fortunate to accept an invitation last week to a dinner where a number of private nursery providers discussed issues affecting our sector.

I was fortunate to accept an invitation last week to a dinner where a number of private nursery providers discussed issues affecting our sector.

After considering all the usual subjects - staff retention and recruitment, abuse of paid sick leave, and the usual round of industry gripes - the subject turned to the need for the private sector to be properly represented by a trade association.

This is very close to my heart, and something I have been seeking to push for several years. The facts are, regrettably, that not withstanding the size of the private sector, or the constant need we have for our views to be fairly represented to a wide variety of parties, there is no sector organisation available to do this.
