Too small to transform?

Letter of the week - I applied for the Transformation Fund but was turned down because we are only registered for 17 children and the minimum had to be 20 children for four hours each day. Yes, we have 17 children, but we care for them for 11 hours per day and we met all the other criteria for the Fund. We feel we have been discriminated against for being a small private nursery where the only money coming in is from fees from parents.

As we are so small, I can only pay my staff the minimum wage. For the past three years I have earned less than they have. The Transformation Fund would have been a lovely way to reward the dedication of my staff by giving them a retention bonus as recognition of this.
