I am currently doing the Specialist Teacher Assistant (STA) course that will qualify me to be a high standard of classroom assistant. I believe that a job description needs to be defined and pay matched accordingly. I also believe that as a result of more people doing my course, pay should be increased and responsibilities defined. Classroom assistants are invaluable within schools and should be given adequate training such as the latest STA course provided by CACHE. The level of achievement should be recognised by the Government and that teaching assistants are vital to supporting the teacher in his or her role.
