Trusts will draw services together

Children's services in England are set for reform with the Government's creation of 35 Children's Trusts. The Trusts, which vary in size and scope, will bring together children's social services, education and health services in a single local structure designed around the needs of children, young people and their families.

Margaret Hodge, minister for children, said their creation 'marks the start of our drive to bring together children's services to provide co-ordinated support to children and families'.

Many Trusts will involve partners from other statutory agencies and the independent and voluntary sectors. Mrs Hodge said, 'Children's Trusts will bring together professionals at a local level. By working together as one body, children's professionals will be able to pool money and staff and share information to offer better support and protection.'
