Working together is taking on a new meaning in one local authority area that's putting into practice the Government's order to integrate children's services, says Simon Vevers Croydon is one of eight London boroughs and 35 local authorities throughout the country chosen to pilot children's trusts and take the process of integrating services to families and children to a new stage.

Croydon is one of eight London boroughs and 35 local authorities throughout the country chosen to pilot children's trusts and take the process of integrating services to families and children to a new stage.

The trust, officially launched on 27 November 2003 by minister for children and families Margaret Hodge, is being developed as part of the work of the borough's Children and Young People's Strategic Partnership.

Following conferences involving a range of stakeholders in the community, the trust will initially focus on the needs of vulnerable children through three service areas - child and adolescent mental health, services for disabled children and early identification and assessment of children with education, family or other problems.
