'Fairytale Economics - The Elves and the Shoemaker'

A shoemaker had fallen on hard times. His business had gone slowly downhill and he found it more and more difficult to replace his stock of leather. Finally, he was left with just one piece - a fine, red leather piece he'd been saving for a special occasion, which was just enough for one last pair of shoes, according to the Brothers Grimm. But economist Bridget Rosewell asks whether the genial old cobbler could have been an early exponent of the sweat shop.
