The programme follows a couple with two young children who are desperate for a better life away from the declining Langworthy estate in Salford but can't afford to move because their home, once worth 28,000 is now valued at 5,000. It also looks at what the Government is doing to bring back hope to run-down inner-city areas.

The SMart team head for Wendell Park Primary School in London, which is celebrating its centenary this year and has asked them to help it produce a special magazine for the occasion.

Sue Lawley talks to veteran children's author and illustrator Shirley Hughes, creator of such characters as Alfie, Lucy and Tom, and Dogger. Shirley has won a number of awards, including the Kate Greenaway Medal and the Eleanor Farjeon Award.

In this edition of the children's wildlife programme, Michaela Strachan travels to Thailand to investigate the tragic story of the 3,000 captive Asian elephants that worked in logging camps until the Thai government banned the industry in 1989.

Each year around 12 people drown in swimming pools in the UK, despite the presence of lifeguards. The popular science programme tests a revolutionary underwater computer system that constantly scans underwater for bodies and alerts lifeguards within seconds.

'The Money Programme - Mobile Madness'

(BBC 2, 7.30 to 8pm)

The programme follows parents campaigning against the installation of mobile phone masts because of fears they could be linked to cancer.
