Two-thirds of all three-year-olds in England now have free nursery education places

Two-thirds of all three-year-olds in England now have free nursery education places, early years minister Catherine Ashton said last week. Speaking in London at the 'Making It Real' conference, Baroness Ashton said, 'Children are our most precious assets. By providing all three- and four-year olds with a good quality nursery place, we ensure they have the best possible start in life. High-quality childcare is a significant element of a healthy labour market, giving parents greater choices to use their skills and for work-life balance.' She added that the Government's aim is for all three-year-olds in England to have a free early education place by September 2004.
