the term 'registered daycare provider' describes a setting that has successfully applied to register with Ofsted, undergone the registration process and been awarded an Ofsted registration certificate. Ofsted recognises four categories of care; the one for out-of-school clubs is 'out of school care'.

Registration is to protect children. Ofsted ensures that a setting meets the minimum standards for the care offered and checks that settings 'provide good outcomes that keep children healthy and safe, and ensure that they enjoy and achieve, and make a positive contribution.' Registration reassures parents, and improves the quality of care.
