A guide to providing rich and meaningful experiences for under-threes has been launched by the authors of the Birth to Three Framework.

Playing to Learn: Developing high-quality experiences for babies andtoddlers is based on a project carried out in five early years centres. It aims to exemplify play and learning in the first three years and tosupport practitioners in meeting play and learning needs.

Authors Lesley Abbott, professor of Early Childhood Education atManchester Metropolitan University, and early education consultant AnnLangston hope the booklet and DVD will 'challenge practitioners'thinking'.

The materials were launched at a 'Playing to Learn' conference atManchester Metropolitan University, at which keynote speaker AnnLangston reminded delegates of the importance of 'planning care andlearning that is right for each child at their stage of development' -an approach based on informed observation.
