Unfair criticism

I just want to say that we teachers don't deserve the resentment of school support staff. We know that they should get paid more for the work that they do, but this is not our fault. I work more than double the hours that my colleague, a nursery nurse, does, both at home and after the nursery session. If our salaries were compared by the hourly rate, I am sure I would probably be earning less than she does.

How does that compensate for the additional responsibility, skills and academic achievement that I bring to the nursery children?

I do appreciate how hard my colleague works, her contribution to planning, the skills and experience she has that enhance the children's education - and I know that she deserves a higher salary.

However, just because the staff rota for next week that I should be typing up now (it's a Saturday morning as I write this) includes my turn to clean the toilets, this does not mean that my colleague and I are doing the same job.
