Unison petition signed by 20,000

A petition signed by 20,000 supporters calling on the Scottish Executive to set up a review into early years education and childcare received its first consideration by the public petitions committee of the Scottish Parliament last week. The petition is part of a campaign by public service union Unison to review and enhance the status of nursery staff and was handed over to Margaret Jamieson MSP by Unison representatives in June (News, 4 July). Unison wants the review to address the structure, remits and the career path of nursery nurses, as well as rates of pay.
